How to stay productive when working from home in summer

5 MIN READ

How do you stay productive when working from home in summer? Very few have discovered the secret.

Because when the sun comes out and Stevenson Square is calling, it’s hard to take your to-do list seriously. In fact, it takes a rare level of self-restraint to not shut your laptop and aim for the nearest Aperol.

But we all have work to do, and sadly, the hustle doesn’t just end because Mr Whippy season has rolled around.

Do you struggle to stay productive in the warmer weather? Want to build better habits so you can get all your boxes ticked, and enjoy your evenings?

Here are our top tips for how to stay productive when working from home in summer at uhaus

Commit to your “lock in” hours

This is where that little red symbol on Teams becomes your best friend.

It’s so easy to get distracted when working from home. Whether it’s an impromptu work call, an ad hoc Teams request, or that pile of washing you’ve been meaning to put away all week. Put a pin in procrastination by turning your Do Not Disturb on.

Removing any outside noise will help you maintain laser focus on your important tasks of the day.

Just think: the sooner you get it done, the sooner you can enjoy the evening sunshine and forget all about work.

Get some fresh air on your lunch break

The summer FOMO is so real.

But the reality is, the rest of your friends are working, just like you. So don’t worry, you’re not missing out on anything.

Instead, think about how you can fit some outdoor time into your workday to scratch the sunshine itch. Maybe that’s a 20-minute walk around your local park, taking your lunch up to the terrace, or a mid-afternoon tea break with your balcony doors open.

Plus, one of the city’s most popular green spaces, Circle Square, is literally outside your front door. Did someone say alfresco dining?

Fresh air means fresh thinking, so take the time to enjoy it whilst you can. We all know fully well that British summer doesn’t last long.

Set up somewhere with good ventilation

Feeling overheated in the hot weather?

We know modern flats can get a little stuffy with the change of season. That’s why our apartments at uhaus are designed to be cool and comfortable, all year round. The majority of our apartments feature a beautiful Juliet balcony and opening windows, so you can enjoy the fresh air.

Want to work outside of your apartment? A stylish, modern space that’s made for focus?

The uhaus workspace is designed for productivity, all-year-round.

Need to take a call? Book out one of our work booths or meeting rooms. Need some double screen access? Our hot desks come with monitors, ready for you to plug into and power through your to-do list. Basically, our workspace has everything you love about working in an office, but better. And it’s all yours to use, as and when you wish.

But it doesn’t stop there…

If you’re looking for somewhere a little more casual, our beautiful light-filled lounges, rooftop terrace and social spaces are also ideal for working. Get comfy on a couch, and fuel your creativity in a fresh space.

Make the most of flexitime

Extended daylight hours mean it’s much easier to get up earlier during the summer. Why not take this as an opportunity to start work earlier, too?

If you’re self-employed or your employer allows flexitime, make the most of it. A 7am-3pm shift means you can really make the most of your evenings. It’ll feel like you’ve had a whole day of summer fun, even if you’ve spent eight hours of it at the laptop.

Plan your to-do list in advance

Organisation is the secret sauce to being productive.

At the start of your workday, make a to-do list that’s realistic and achievable. If you’re someone who suffers with the afternoon slump, front-load your day so you can get your most important tasks done first thing.

Have a lot of meetings on a Monday morning? Block out your Tuesday so you can fully focus on your non-negotiable tasks.

Being strategic with your workday will enable you to finish sooner and get outside quicker.

Stay hydrated

We’re definitely stating the obvious with this one, but so many of us are guilty of not drinking enough water during the hot weather.

Whether you’re someone who works on your feet or in front of a screen, it’s so important to get your two litres in each day. Dehydration causes headaches, fatigue, and prevents you from being as productive as you could be. That’s exactly what we don’t want during the best season of the year.

It is iced coffee season, after all, so it shouldn’t be too difficult for you to keep your cup full.

Did you know, we offer unlimited coffee and tea at uhaus? You’ll find our coffee machines in our communal areas.

Optimise your lunch break

Enjoy exercising but want to reserve your summer evenings for fun time?

Getting your gym session done in your lunch break could be a game-changer.

Our gym and fitness studio here at uhaus is open 24/7, giving you ultimate flexibility. Even if you only have half an hour for lunch, getting in a 20-minute workout is still better than nothing.

Plus, our gym is fully equipped to give you everything you need for a great pump.

There’s no better feeling than finishing work and knowing that all your exercise for the day is already done. Uhaus makes maintaining that routine so easy.
